Steelcase Education and Grand Valley State University Library Case Study VideoLibrary case study video: Grand Valley State University

Like every space on campus, the library now is being rethought and reorganized. See how Grand Valley State University and Steelcase applied the principles of active learning to completely re-imagine the library experience. Steelcase researchers initiated a major study of libraries at private and public colleges and universities across the U.S. What they discovered were major shifts in how the library is being used and a many opportunities to better leverage space, new technologies, and pedagogies for a new generation of students.

media:scape LearnLab case study: University of Florida

To prepare students for the future, the University of Florida developed two active learning spaces designed to foster communication, collaboration and problem solving. Their solutions were a media:scape LearnLab and the AHA! colab, an open classroom and collaborative suite of breakout rooms.

Node case study: Universidad Mariano Galvez de Guatemala

Like all higher education institutions, Universidad Mariano Galvez de Guatemala has been trying to address the changes impacting education today: increased student expectations, rapidly changing technology and the adoption of more active and interactive teaching styles. Recognizing the impact these changes have on learning spaces, the university made Node standard in all of their nearly 300 classrooms.

eno case study: Ilse of Eigg

In the fall of 2010, two schools using PolyVision technology on opposite sides of the world, seized a unique opportunity to partner in a global learning collaboration. Carteret Middle School, in New Jersey, teamed up with the Eigg School, located on a remote island off of the coast of Scotland. The goal of the program was to enable students to communicate with a group of peers from a completely different social background.

As with any facility project, MacEwan University established rigorous cost, schedule and quality goals when it decided to create a new Service Centre for its administrative staff. That, however, was just the beginning. Right from the start, the new centre was envisioned to be a space that would prompt the culture to become more collaborative, team-based and transparent.

A new group work area in the main library at Texas Tech University takes a decidedly nontraditional approach to library space, and as a result has become one of the most popular places on campus. Students hold animated conversations and collaborate at 11 different media:scape work stations.

eno case study: Upper Darby School

Located just west of Philadelphia, Upper Darby School District serves one of the most densely populated and urbanized townships in Pennsylvania. Over the past two decades, the district has grown from 7,500 to over 12,000 students, making it the largest school system in Delaware County and among the top 11 in the state. The District is comprised of 14 schools, including one high school, two middle schools, ten elementary schools and a kindergarten center.
