The traveller has drifted from port to port, journeying from Heraklion to the slopes of Vesuvius, driven by a thirst for a long-forgotten mystery. Enthralled by universal beauty, he has sought its secret from Ancient Crete to Pompeii, the everlasting city. Inspired by his quest for knowledge and meaning, he remembers a fragment of fresco, an unfinished mosaic, the sculpted Acanthus leaves and garlands of flowers that once clothed these sacred walls. Shapes and patterns intermingle. The marks of the past melt into the designs of the present. On the floor, the artist gives shape to his memories, creating “Le Temple”, a carpet that is an ode to all aesthetes, present and past.
