Why a healthcare focused organization?

The furniture industry has provided solutions to the medical world for years, but more often than not, those solutions have been created with office furniture. Steelcase Health uses research driven design and a holistic approach to provide user-centered solutions to common problems in the clinical environment. Steelcase Health addresses the healthcare industry as a separate category that deserves a dedicated company to meet industry-specific needs.

How does Steelcase Health work?

The primary motivation at Steelcase Health is to develop collaborative partnerships that result in applicable solutions for the healthcare industry. Working with hospitals, clinics, architects and designers using a variety of research techniques has resulted in the products being introduced at NeoCon. The line will continue to grow as the Steelcase Health team works with other healthcare providers to develop innovative approaches to complex problems.

The Steelcase Health Product Line

Steelcase Health has hit the ground running with products and expertise from other Steelcase companies with significant experience in healthcare. These companies integrate under the Steelcase Health umbrella to give it one of the deepest product portfolios in the business. Steelcase Health offerings include original Steelcase Health pieces and products from the Steelcase family of companies – Steelcase, Brayton, Designtex, Details, Metro, Polyvision, Turnstone, and Vecta.

Research and Partnerships

Over the past two years, members of the current Steelcase Health team conducted ethnographic research at leading health facilities like Ascension Health, Intermountain Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Massachusetts General Hospital, Mayo Clinic and other top Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) to evaluate a wide variety of interactions in numerous healthcare environments – especially how caregivers perform their duties and how patients receive their care.

Steelcase Health has also partnered with Planetree and the Center for Health Design’s Pebble Project in an effort to better understand the complexities of creating a healing environment and to share ideas on how to make the healthcare experience better for all.

Other organizations they have been working with include MHA: Michigan Health and Hospital Association, LEED: Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design, ANFA: Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture, SMIL: Strategic Marketplace Initiatives and AAHID: American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers.
