Details® Launches High Design, Hard Working LED Task Light

LED task light – dash™ – offers flexibility and energy efficiency for office environments

CHICAGO – June 14, 2010 – Details, a division of Steelcase, introduced the dash™ personal LED task light today at NeoCon 2010, the World’s Trade Fair for Interior Design and Facilities Management, offering office workers a high-performance, energy-efficient lighting package for their work space. Combining superior function with understated aesthetics, dash offers a variety of quiet and intuitive features that enhance the visual intent of a space, rather than dominate it.

With LED technology now a viable and cost effective alternative to compact fluorescent and incandescent lighting, companies are beginning to recognize the energy and cost benefits of LED technology, which will soon become the primary lighting option for offices.

“Dash is a task light that goes well beyond simply integrating LED technology into a beautifully-designed package,” said Bud Klipa, general manager of Details. “Details used its unique knowledge of employees and the office to design a lighting solution that offers advanced mechanics and functionality to truly fit the needs of individuals in the modern workplace.”

Designed in collaboration with Foster + Partners, world leading architectural and design firm, the dash LED task light delivers a well balanced distribution of light that virtually eliminates contrast and shadows, while controls offer users flexibility. The light includes a 35 percent dimming feature, allowing users to adjust light levels to accommodate varying tasks. Individuals can dim the light by simply depressing the touch switch located on the head of the light.

While at their desks, individuals can position light where it is most needed due to dash’s two separate arms and multiple pivot points of articulation. Moreover, since dash is wireless, the lower arm can rotate 360 degrees along the axis of the base. Users can also extend the arm to a maximum horizontal reach of 32 inches – ideal for deep worksurface applications. The head can rotate 360 degrees along the horizontal plane as well, giving users the ability to select between direct or indirect illuminating options. For additional positioning control, the tension of each pivot point manually adjusts by rotating the integrated thumb screws.

Requiring only eight watts of power, dash is one of the most energy efficient task lights available. Sustainability was carefully considered throughout the development process, with all materials and manufacturing processes conforming to BIFMA Level 1 standards, certification pending. Additionally, since there are no wires within the arms, the fixture itself is completely PVC free.

Dash will be available in low gloss black, arctic white and platinum, with either a freestanding base or mountable to a SOTO™ or c:scape® rail bracket. The product will ship in the United States in July, and will be available at a list price of $480.
