Steelcase Honored with 2023 Governor’s Service Award

The organization was recognized in the Corporate Social Impact category for its volunteer, service and philanthropy work.

Grand Rapids, MI, Nov. 29, 2023 – Steelcase, a global design and thought leader in the world of work, was honored this week with a 2023 Governor’s Service Award in the Corporate Social Impact category for its volunteer, service and philanthropy work.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Community Service Commission honored Steelcase and 41 other organizations at the award ceremony on Nov. 28 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The Michigan Community Service Commission supports Michigan volunteers, organizations and businesses that are committed to service and play a critical role in improving the lives of our people and communities.

Steelcase created its Better Futures Community, whose members include clients, dealers, employees and partners, to make a stronger impact for people around the world by working toward building equitable access to opportunity. It strives to make an impact in local communities through three main programs: Steelcase Changemakers, the Better Futures Lab and the Better Futures Fund.

Steelcase is making progress toward this goal by:

  • Activating community partnerships in 37 Steelcase locations around the world and partnering with 169 organizations on 278 projects to address the root causes of issues in equity, education and the environment in fiscal year 2023.
  • Hosting the first annual Better Is Possible Design Challenge, which brought together employees, community partners and dealer partners in 11 cities worldwide to address the challenge of building a movement for climate action.
  • Volunteering 45,000 hours since 2021, on the way to a goal of 100,000 hours by 2030.

More information can be found in the organization’s 2023 Impact Report.

“Our world faces many tough challenges today. As a global organization, we have the responsibility – and opportunity – to lead efforts that address these issues. But the solution requires collective action,” said Kim Dabbs, vice president of ESG and Social Innovation for Steelcase. “We are thankful for this recognition by the state of Michigan, which reinforces that only when we work together, can we truly make a positive difference in the world.”
