Steelcase Health wins Nightingale award for Opus Overbed table

A NeoCon ‘07 Gold Award winner, Opus Overbed Table notches second major industry award for 2007

Dallas, TX – November 5, 2007 – Steelcase Health, a healthcare environments company, today announced that it has earned the prestigious Nightingale Award at the annual Healthcare Design 07 Conference in Dallas for its Opus Overbed Table.

The Opus Overbed Table is more than just a place for patient meals. It supports nearly every activity in the room. By observing how doctors, nurses, family and patients use the table for nearly everything that happens in the patient room, Steelcase Health’s design for the new Opus Overbed Table focuses on accommodating these activities in a simple, but thoughtful way.

Steelcase Health Director of Product Development designer Alan Rheault said, “We’re particularly proud that this product was singled out for recognition. The Overbed Table is so critical to the patient and careprovider experience. We feel the Overbed Table brings significant design innovation and functionality to a place where it matters most – the bedside.”

The new design has two top surfaces: one stationary at standing height, ready for care providers; and the other a height adjustable patient surface with non handed concaved shape and soft corner radii for patient comfort. This table is highly durable through the use of appropriate plastics acting as bumpers, and edges that can’t be picked at by restless patients. The tabletop surfaces are made of thermo fused material with no visible seams; it is easily cleaned.

The Nightingale Awards honor new healthcare and contract (nonresidential) products introduced to the U.S. market since November 2006. They are awarded based on the product’s contribution to the quality of healthcare, functionality, quality, aesthetics, environmental sustainability and pricing, and are judged by healthcare facilities executives and interior designers. The Nightingale Awards product design competition is sponsored byContractmagazine in association with The Center for Health Design and The Healthcare Design Conference.

“Earning a Nightingale Award is a tremendous honor for Steelcase Health. It reinforces our commitment to continuously strive to offer the highest quality products and recognizes our contribution to the healthcare industry,” said Michael Love, president of Steelcase Health. Steelcase Health officially launched as a company last year, but the company is not new to healthcare. Years of research and partnerships with leading healthcare providers allow the company to tailor a wide variety of environmental solutions to specific settings.

In addition to the Nightingale Award, Steelcase Health products have been honored with consecutive “Gold” awards in the healthcare furniture category at the 2006 and 2007 “Best of NeoCon” competitions. The Opus Overbed Table is part of Steelcase Health’s Opus line of casegoods — a Best of NeoCon 2006 Gold Award winner in healthcare furniture — which combine the convenience of traditional freestanding casegoods with the flexibility of modular furniture.
