Steelcase Inc. Donates Over $2,000 to Friends of TOMS
Proceeds Earned Through Walkstation® “Walk for Good” Walk-a-Thon for Needy Children
January 8, 2010 – Grand Rapids, MI – Steelcase Inc. (NYSE: SCS) the global leader in the office furniture industry, announced their donation to Friends of TOMS, a non-profit organization that provides shoes to children in impoverished areas. The donation was provided following a contest in which three teams were awarded a Steelcase Walkstation® Fitness Office, a height adjustable workstation with built-in treadmill, to compete in a two-week long walk-a-thon for needy children. Steelcase based its donation on the 450 total miles walked by the three teams, resulting in a $2,250 donation.
Entrants in the Walkstation Contest submitted a two-minute video explaining why their team should receive a Walkstation. The three winning teams included the McCullough family of New Hampshire, MTCDC, an engineering services company located in Virginia and Reagan Marketing & Design of Michigan. Upon receiving their Walkstation, each team competed in the walk-a-thon while recording their progress and sharing their experience on Twitter. The competition goal was to raise awareness of the needy children in impoverished areas as well as the importance of active movement throughout the work day.
“We had a fantastic time walking for TOMS,” said Lisa Godenick, director of process, standards and professionalism at MTCSC. “Because it was such a great cause, our team would rotate — coming in early and staying until 8pm on some nights. One of our team members lost five pounds! I think each of us lost at least a pound or two over those two weeks while working. It’s such a great way to work and let your creative juices really start flowing.”

As we walked, we became more committed to TOMS and their mission to bring shoes to needy children around the world. It was a fun and wonderful way to work as a team, and we continue to incorporate the Walkstation into our work lives.”
