Modernizing Space for Health Education
Lakeland Community College recognized a growing student interest in healthcare and seized the opportunity to expand and modernize their Health Technologies building. With the support of state funding and a community bond levy, the college embarked on a $50 million renovation to create a facility that meets the needs of today’s students. With close collaboration with IDEO and Steelcase, the team aimed to create a space that is both functional and inviting, promoting active, collaborative learning.
Despite the challenges of redesigning an older building, the new facility boasts comfortable, movable furniture and state-of-the-art technologies that facilitate immersive, hands-on learning. Laboratory spaces mimic real-world healthcare environments, providing students with practical experience. The building’s many informal areas, from quiet study nooks to vibrant conversation hubs, ensure that students have the environment they need to succeed.
