Creating A Timeless Campus
Jackie L. Shaw envisioned an innovative American-style college experience within Kuwait, leading to the American International University in Al Jahra. With the help NBBJ and Steelcase, the team created a user-centered campus environment that feels timeless, magnetic and engaging. Shaw wanted to ensure that AIU’s design would mirror the experience of attending a top-tier U.S. school while remaining highly functional and attractive for years to come.
The four-story facility features 32 classrooms, 14 computer labs, and 13 specialty labs, with informal areas for studying and socializing. The main academic center includes a welcoming lobby, modular lounge furnishings and versatile classrooms equipped with smart boards and moveable furniture. The library is designed with double-height windows, cozy reading areas, and multiple zones for collaboration and concentration, providing a dynamic and stimulating environment for students and faculty.
