1925: Steelcase Dealer Installs First Banking Counter
Schwabacher-Frey Company completes its first installation of full counter equipment, filing systems, and custom furnishings for the new Pan-American Bank in Los Angeles—later known as Coast & Southern Savings and Loan—marking a milestone in bank design.
1920s–30s: Steelcase Designs Early Bank Teller Stations
In the 1920s–30s, teller’s cages were designed for security, order, and efficiency. With built-in drawers, glass dividers, and brass accents, this Steelcase design reflected the trust and formality banks needed during a time of major economic change.
