Steelcase signs exclusive distribution partnership with retail furniture brand Commune

Expanding the global office furniture provider’s reach to the work-from-home market

[Singapore – 15 September 2020] the leading global office furniture manufacturer Steelcase has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Singapore lifestyle furniture brand Commune, to bring remote workers greater access to Steelcase’s high-performance workplace products and solutions.

Known for its over 108 years of history serving the world’s leading organisations and corporate customers, Steelcase sees a surge of demand for ergonomic furniture in home settings, as the work-from-home mandate continues over the global pandemic.

“More than ever before, people are looking to create more productive and healthy working environments outside the office,” said Samantha Giam, Steelcase’s Director of Product Marketing, Asia Pacific. “Commune is a visionary retailer that is constantly innovating. Its seamless integration of technology, such as AR, into its brick-and-mortar business model has truly transformed and enriched customers’ experience. Our partnership will offer remote workers direct access to Steelcase’s workplace solutions through a holistic and enjoyable shopping journey.”

From now, customers will be able to experience Steelcase’s collections firsthand in Commune’s flagship store at Millenia Walk. On display alongside Commune’s home and lifestyle offerings, an array of Steelcase’s award-winning products, from Gesture chair (named “The Best chair 2020” by The New York Times’ consumer review and winner of Neocon’s Gold Award in 2013) to its other signature chair collections – Think and Series 1 – will help customers integrate ergonomic workplace principles into their living space.

“As a home-grown Singapore brand, we are very proud to have brought our customers in Singapore, not just beautiful design, but furniture that function with effortless form and intelligent craftsmanship, since we founded the company in 2011,” said Joshua Koh, CEO of Commune. “As we continue to expand across the region, our commitment to delivering products and services that suit today’s diverse lifestyles is strengthened. We are thrilled to be partnering with Steelcase. As a global leader in the workplace sector, their reach-driven approach and products will be an excellent complement to our expertise in home design.

Now, customers can experience our range of home furniture, such as the Excelsior & Crimson writing desk, paired with Steelcase’s collections of professional seating.”

“Since Steelcase’s online store was launched earlier this year to meet the increasing demand for ergonomic furniture amongst remote workers, we see the opportunity to help customers better understand the science behind our products. Our partnership with Commune will create a perfect platform for us to share Steelcase’s decades of knowledge and insight, and help customers reimagine the future of the home office.” said Paul Lancaster, Sales Director, Singapore.

Commune will participate in the eGSS (Great Singapore Sale) 2020. During the month-long event, taking place from 9th September to 10th October, customers will enjoy special offers from the retailer, including promotions held in conjunction with Steelcase.
