About Intermix

About Intermix

Intermix is a proprietary performance textile that is exclusive for Steelcase Karman, and central to its performance, comfort and aesthetic. It’s not mesh. It’s beyond mesh.

Intermix creates perfect tension to the seat and back frame using a patented technology that creates ideal ergonomic support – it never sags or feels stiff.

Over a dozen proprietary textile colors in translucent, opaque and color-shifting options give you more choices than any leading mesh chair.

Intermix Technology

Intermix Technology

Intermix was co-developed through an exclusive weaving process that incorporates plastic yarns and filaments into the weave. In unison with Steelcase Karman’s flexible frame, Intermix achieves perfect tension that distributes your weight evenly over the seat and back, flexing to your movement and fitting the contours of your body perfectly.

Intermix Options

Intermix Options

Unlike traditional mesh, the versatility in Intermix’s proprietary weaving process results in a platform for diversity and expression. Intermix offers an industry-leading color range that allows Steelcase Karman to fit a wide range of spaces.

The unique weaving process results in three variations of Intermix:

  • Intermix is classic and translucent with a more traditional mesh look and feel.
  • Intermix Opaque is luxurious and residential with the hand-feel of upholstery.
  • Intermix Shift is color-shifting and provocative with a dynamic visual that changes with light and viewing angle.

Stain Repellent

Mod features a hybrid construction of high-energy dyed polyester and solution dyed nylon that offers the best of both worlds for high-traffic spaces where performance and aesthetics are both essential. The Nanosphere® finish can prevent stains from penetrating into fabric surface, releasing soil when cleaned.

Durability

Durability

Every Steelcase fabric needs to pass more than 30 quality tests internally. In order to provide durable fabrics for our products, all Steelcase fabrics need to pass abrasion resistance test and color fastness test.

Recycled Polyester

It’s available in 2 ways – post consumer and post industrial. Both are kind to the environment, as they reduce the amount of waste going to a landfill and save energy in the manufacturing process.

Post consumer polyester is made from waste material left over after consumer use. Things like soda and water bottles are ultimately extruded and woven into fabric.

Post industrial polyester is made from waste material that is left over from industrial processes and before use by the consumer.

Antimony-free* Yarn

Some of our fabrics are made using 100% polyester, using antimony-free* yarn. These materials, like Buzz2 and Alloy, provide preferable alternatives for the purist in all of us.

*Yarn used in making this material contains less than 100 parts per million of antimony.
