A dynamic and constantly changing reality requires adaptation and change in educational approaches: the student is no longer to be seen as a passive receptacle for knowledge, but as an active participant in the construction of knowledge.
The University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas wanted to breathe life back into its underutilized library. In partnership with Steelcase Education, campus leaders helped reimagine the existing space and create a vibrant, active and energizing in-between space where people can connect like never before.
Recognizing the critical interdependency of pedagogy, technology and the spatial environment for successful active learning, in 2013 CATS Cambridge began planning for a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility.
Old norms are giving way to a deeper, broader and more individualized perspective on what student success is and how to achieve it. Many educators are rethinking their teaching methods, curricula, support services and technologies, all with the aim of developing a more relevant and strategic approach. The Active Learning Center Grant from Steelcase Education aims to help educators create the most effective, rewarding and inspiring active learning environments to meet these evolving needs.
