Teaching the Creative Process
Teaching Creativity Today
A key component of student success is the ability to think creatively. To address this need, schools are scrapping old paradigms and using new, innovative pedagogies and learning spaces to teach creativity. Based on extensive research at schools, colleges and universities, Steelcase has developed design considerations for creative learning environments.
Teaching the creative process has three main parts:
Supporting the Creative Process
Non-hierarchical spaces, such as classrooms that users can rearrange to support different groups and the various modes of the creative process, allow for a better flow of ideas.
Build to See What Works
Maker spaces encourage students to build and tinker with things, to see what works and what doesn’t.
Concepts + Projects on Display
Sharing involves putting concepts and projects on display — in analog and digital formats — to share with other students, faculty, the entire class and even the community at large.
Active Learning: Insights + Applications Guide
Students prepare for a future no one can predict and jobs that, in many cases, haven’t been invented yet. Educators are responding to these diverse forces with a refreshing openness, adopting active learning and embracing new technology. Our Insights and Applications Guide provides the latest thinking on classroom design and learning spaces.
Steelcase Education is focused on helping schools, colleges and universities create the most effective, rewarding and inspiring active learning environments to meet the evolving needs of students and educators. We have a passion for understanding how learning best takes place and how smarter, active learning spaces can help.
