As designers and makers, we are acutely aware that our work has an impact on the planet.
Our responsibility to do better for the world we share has always been part of who we are. In 2001, our Grand Rapids Wood Plant opened as the world’s first LEED Silver certified manufacturing facility, and we have continually been improving ever since.
We’re doing better for the planet by recognizing our role in climate change and reducing our
environmental impact to help build a more sustainable and resilient world. The Grand Rapids Wood plant has reduced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 91% since opening, improved the use of recycled post-industrial fiber content in wood core, uses 100% FSC controlled particleboard, has improved truck cube utilization by creating “just the right size” packaging and has reduced lighting energy consumption by over 50% since 2018. Now, our science-based carbon reduction goals are helping us define the future as we relentlessly pursue further energy efficiency and waste reduction opportunities.
