2012

  • Steelcase is recognized by two organizations for sustainability efforts – Michigan Green Leader awards and Michigan’s 101 Best & Brightest Sustainable Companies.

2011

  • Steelcase Inc. won four Best of NeoCon awards: Turnstone Bivi (Gold – Benching); Details SOTO II (Gold – Office Accessories); Coalesse Sebastopol (Gold – Occasional Tables); Coalesse CG1 (Silver – Occasional Tables).
  • U.S. General Services Administration grants Steelcase its Evergreen Award. Steelcase is the only company to receive the Evergreen Award for furniture twice – once in 2000 and again for 2010.
  • The Detroit Free Press recognizes Steelcase as a Michigan Green Leader for Sustainability and Environmental Innovation. Steelcase was among 16 Michigan businesses honored for moving the state forward in innovation, sustainable development and conservation.

2010

  • cobi™, a chair designed for a new mode of collaborative work, was featured in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's fourth exhibition in the National Design Triennial series. "Why Design Now?" explored the work of designers addressing human and environmental problems across many fields of design from architecture and product design to fashion, graphics, new media and landscape design.
  • The Chicago Anthenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design awarded six Steelcase products (Elective Element 6 New Solutions, Campfire Big Lamp, QiVi, Denizen, Emu Ivy and Emu Heaven) with a Good Design® award.
  • Steelcase received a bronze award from the Edison Best New Product Awards for Workspring, a high-performance collaborative retreat in the heart of Chicago. The Edison Awards is an annual competition that recognizes innovation in the spirit of American inventor Thomas Alva Edison. The award was in the Living, Working & Learning Environments category.
  • The International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) awarded Steelcase Inc. the Green Achievement Award at its annual Circle of Excellence Awards. The awards program recognizes individual talent, corporate initiative and significant accomplishments within the design and furnishings community. Steelcase was among seven Circle of Excellence award recipients including The Alpha Workshops, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Benjamin Moore, Interior Design magazine and Charles Pavarini III Design Associates.

2009

  • The Think™ chair received the first-ever level 3 certification to the new Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacture’s Association (BIFMA) e3 sustainability standard.
  • Steelcase's Mexico facility became the first in our industry to earn the prestigious “Socially Responsible Company” designation (or ESR, for Empresa Socialmente Responsable), from the Mexican Center for Philanthropy.
  • The cobi™ chair won the prestigious Red Dot design award. More than 3,200 products are nominated for this international award in a variety of design categories, and only a small number receive the red dot “seal of design quality.”
  • The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the Coalesse and Designtex Chicago Showroom Gold Certification for being efficient and environment-friendly interiors.
  • Steelcase received the top ranking in eight categories in Contract magazine's year-end Subscriber Survey.
  • The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design gave a Good Design™ award to Steelcase's cobi™ chair.

2008

  • WasteWise, an Environmental Protection Agency program that helps U.S. organizations eliminate costly municipal solid waste, named Steelcase its 2008 Large Business Partner of the Year, in recognition of our overall waste reduction and efforts to purchase or manufacture recycled-content products. The EPA has recognized Steelcase for seven years straight, including five honorable mentions and three gold product achievement awards.
  • Steelcase Inc. won seven Best of NeoCon 2008 awards.

2007

  • For the second year in a row, Steelcase won an Amerinet Supplier Award, which recognizes contracted suppliers who have posted year-over-year volume growth of 20 percent or more.
  • Steelcase Inc. won six Best of Neocon 2007 awards.
  • Brayton won two ADEX (Awards for Design Excellence): a Platinum Award for Await Modular Seating Collection and a Gold Award for Trees Table Collection.
  • Steelcase made its debut on CRO magazine's list of Best Corporate Citizens. The annual list recognizes best practices in the area of corporate responsibility and draws from a pool of more than 1,100 of the largest publicly traded companies.
  • Fast Company included Steelcase on its list of "Fast 50" - companies that are finding “profit-driven solutions for what ails the planet.”

2006

  • Industrial Designer Society of America and BusinessWeek magazine, IDEA Award, Gold Award, Think® Chair
  • Steelcase Inc. won six Best of Neocon 2006 awards.
  • The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality awards Steelcase a Neighborhood Environmental Partners Gold Award, in recognition of our efforts to initiate local projects that work toward raising environmental awareness and the quality of life within Michigan communities.
  • Our City of Industry Plant became the first Steelcase facility to win the Shingo Prize, the highest honor a North American manufacturing company can win for its implementation of lean principles and continuous improvement efforts.

2005

  • Steelcase received the top ranking in seven categories in Contract magazine's year-end Subscriber Survey.
  • Steelcase became the first office furniture company to receive McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry’s (MBDC) new Cradle-to-Cradle™ Product Certification. Our Think® chair earned silver-level certification for its ecologically intelligent materials and cradle-to-cradle product design. The chair is composed of 99% recyclable content, 41% recyled material and uses only materials deemed by MBDC as safe to the environment.
    Steelcase won two "red dot" design awards, for the Think™ chair and the Flex Box modular storage system (developed by Steelcase Europe for the international market).
  • Steelcase Inc. won seven Best of Neocon 2005 awards.
  • The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design gave five Good Design™ awards to Steelcase and our subsidiaries. Steelcase won for the Think™ chair; Turnstone won for the Scoop café stool and Pet Lounge chair; and Brayton won for the Calm Table and Ripple Bench.
  • Brayton won the 2005 ADEX Platinum Award from the Design Journal for Cura healthcare seating and table product line.
  • Steelcase earned top rankings in the annual Contract magazine subscriber survey.
    Metro’s Topo™ system received a Design Distinction award from I.D. Magazine in their 2005 Annual Design Review.
  • Two of PolyVision’s Walk-and-Talk interactive products – the Interactive Panel & Cordless Lectern and the Walk-and-Talk Interactive Whiteboard – won the top honor, the Grand Award for Marketing Innovation, at the Georgia State University MAX Award ceremony.
